Cosmic Horror (2024)
On April 3rd, 2024, I met with Geumwone, who shared a fascinating story. She had recently encountered a cosmic horror while working part-time at a club in Itaewon. Cosmic horror—also known as eldritch horror—is a subgenre of horror fiction that centers on the terror of the unknown and the incomprehensible.
In that moment of eerie confrontation, Geumwone lit a cigarette. I was struck by the simplicity of that act amidst such dread, and I wanted to capture the emotions and thoughts she might have felt while smoking. I chose to exaggerate the motion—drawing out the act of smoking at a deliberately slow pace.
